Investiture Ceremony
The Investiture Ceremony of the Student Council for the academic year 2025–26 was organized by the School of Health Sciences at the Mini-Amphitheatre, opposite HS Block, DSU Harohalli Campus, on 18th March 2026 at 9:30 AM.
The ceremony began with an invocation, followed by the welcome address and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The newly elected student council office bearers were formally inducted into their respective positions and took the oath of office, signifying their commitment to leadership and responsibility.
Dr. Pushpa Sarkar, Dean, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of leadership, accountability, and teamwork among students. Dr. Shejila C. H., Principal, motivated the council members to uphold discipline, dedication, and service in carrying out their duties effectively.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem, marking the successful commencement of the new student council’s tenure. The ceremony instilled a sense of responsibility and leadership among the students.
Essential Newborn Care (ENBC) and Facility-Based Newborn Care (FBNC)
The College of Nursing Sciences, under the Department of Child Health Nursing, organized a two-day workshop on Essential Newborn Care (ENBC) and Facility-Based Newborn Care (FBNC) on 09-03-2026 and 10-03-2026 at the seminar hall in the SHS building for the 6th semester B.Sc. Nursing students. The programme aimed to enhance the students’ practical knowledge and clinical skills in providing safe and effective care for newborn babies and to develop competency in essential newborn care practices.
The training programme was conducted by experienced resource persons Mrs. Vanitha, Mrs. Sunitha, Dr. Jamuna, and Mrs. S. Suseela, who guided the participants through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice sessions. Students were also given the opportunity to practice the procedures under supervision, which helped them gain confidence and practical experience in providing newborn care.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
The Department of Psychiatric Nursing, College of Nursing Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University, successfully organized a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Workshop on 16th and 17th March 2026, commencing from 9:00 AM onwards.
The workshop was conducted with the objective of enhancing the therapeutic competencies of nursing students and professionals through evidence-based CBT approaches. The sessions were led by distinguished resource persons, Dr. Sreejith Sudhakar and Ms. Nisha Sumithran, who shared their expertise on cognitive restructuring, behavioral techniques, and practical applications of CBT in mental health settings.
The program was highly interactive and enriched participants’ understanding of structured therapeutic interventions, thereby strengthening their clinical skills in psychiatric nursing practice. The workshop concluded successfully with active participation and positive feedback from attendees.
Idea to Impact – Motivational Session by a Successful Entrepreneur” organized by Institutional Innovation Council (IIC)
The Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) of the College of Nursing Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University organized an inspiring session titled “Idea to Impact – Motivational Session by a Successful Entrepreneur.” The program aimed to encourage students and faculty to convert innovative healthcare ideas into impactful real-world solutions.
The session was delivered by Mr. Shashi Kumara H S, CEO & Founder of STARS Healthcare Academy, Bengaluru. He shared his entrepreneurial journey, challenges, leadership experiences, and strategies for transforming ideas into successful ventures. His motivational talk emphasized resilience, innovation, risk-taking, and the importance of vision in building healthcare enterprises.
The interactive discussion inspired nursing professionals to explore entrepreneurship alongside clinical excellence, empowering them to become innovators, leaders, and contributors to healthcare transformation. The session reinforced the institution’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurial mindset, innovation culture, and industry collaboration within nursing education.
Sustainable Development Goals: Academic Perspectives and Institutional Responsibility
The College of Nursing Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University organized a talk on Sustainable Development Goals: Academic Perspectives and Institutional Responsibility on 19 February 2026 to promote awareness on sustainability and institutional responsibility. The program aimed to enhance understanding of Sustainable Development Goals in academic institutions and highlight the role of education in building responsible citizens and sustainable societies.
The session was delivered by Dr. Sharmila J, Professor and Head of Department (Psychiatric Nursing) and IQAC Coordinator, who emphasized environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and institutional commitment towards achieving global development goals. The informative and interactive session provided valuable insights into sustainable development and encouraged participants to adopt sustainable practices for a better future.
Mindful Learning: Academic & Emotional Wellness Sessions
College of Nursing Sciences under the Departments of Psychiatric Nursing and paediatric Nursing organized “Mindful Learning: Academic & Emotional Wellness Sessions” on 14th February 2026 at Kasturba Public School Harohalli, South Bengaluru. The session focused on improving students’ concentration, study habits, and emotional wellbeing. Students were taught simple attention techniques and positive thinking methods to enhance learning. Interactive activities on stress management and relaxation exercises were conducted.
The session helped students manage academic stress and improve focus in their studies. Students actively participated and showed great interest in the activities. The program created awareness about emotional wellness and healthy study practices. The session was successfully conducted and appreciated by both students and teachers.
Community Mental Health Camp
College of Nursing Sciences under the Department of Psychiatric Nursing organized a Community Mental Health Camp on 12th and 13th February 2026 at Community Health Centre Harohalli. The camp aimed to promote mental health awareness and provide essential mental health services to the community. Mental health assessment, screening of vital parameters, and referral services were carried out for participants. Activities such as psychodrama and poster presentations were conducted to enhance public awareness.
Free mental health check-ups and guidance on early identification, prevention, and management of mental health problems were provided. The camp helped improve awareness on mental wellbeing and encouraged timely professional support. The community actively participated and benefited from the services offered. The program was successfully conducted, contributing to promotion of mental health awareness.
Deworming Awareness Program
College of Nursing Sciences, under the Department of Child Health Nursing, conducted a Deworming Awareness Program on 10-02-2026 at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Harohalli, organized by 8th semester B.Sc. Nursing students. The program aimed to create awareness on deworming and prevention of intestinal worm infestation through simple and effective teaching methods. An engaging puppet show highlighted the causes, effects, and preventive measures of worm infestation in children.
This was followed by a health education session emphasizing personal hygiene, safe food practices, and the importance of regular deworming. Dr. Soniya, Pediatrician, and Dr. Venugopal, General Physician, explained the impact of worm infestation on child growth and development. The program received active public participation and successfully enhanced community awareness while strengthening students’ communication and health education skills.
Breaking the Silence: Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters
College of Nursing Sciences under the department of OBG Nursing, organized a workshop titled “Breaking the Silence: Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters” on 10th February 2026, with the gracious presence of the Dean Dr. Pushpa Sarkar, Principal Dr. Shejila C. H., and Chief Guest Prof. Shreyes Swamidas, Prof. Dr. Shreyes Swamidas, M.S (Ay.), M.B.A., Ph.D Principal, Ramakrishna Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital, Bengaluru. The keynote address by Prof. Shreyes Swamidas highlighted the need for open dialogue, awareness, and evidence-based practices in sexual and reproductive health, especially among youth. The session was informative, engaging, and thought-provoking for all participants.
Two impactful role plays by 8th semester B.Sc. Nursing students focused on sexual and reproductive health issues and the myths and stigma surrounding them. Students from 2nd and 6th semester B.Sc. Nursing and M.Sc. Nursing actively participated in skill-based activities, enhancing communication, counselling, and decision-making skills. The workshop successfully empowered students to address sensitive SRH issues with confidence, professionalism, and empathy.
FDP on Resilience in the Face of Stress: Strategies for Sustainable Professional Well-Being
The Department of Psychiatric Nursing, College of Nursing Sciences, organized a workshop titled “Resilience in the Face of Stress: Strategies for Sustainable Professional Well-Being” on 6th February 2026.
The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of stress, resilience, and effective coping strategies to promote sustainable professional well-being among the faculty. The session emphasized the importance of mastering stress rather than merely escaping it, highlighting practical approaches for maintaining mental health in academic and professional life.
The program featured two distinguished resource persons, Dr. Sreejith Sudhakar and Dr. Yogeswarie S, Assistant Professors from the Department of Psychology, Christ University, Bengaluru. The speakers shared valuable insights on stress management techniques, building emotional resilience, and adopting healthy coping mechanisms. Interactive discussions and real-life examples helped participants gain a deeper understanding of resilience as a lifelong skill.
The workshop was well received and provided a meaningful platform for participants to reflect on their personal well-being, develop positive coping strategies, and strengthen their capacity to handle professional challenges effectively.
FDP on Technology-Integrated Nursing Education: Bridging the Gap
The College of Nursing Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University, conducted a Faculty Development Programme from June 23 to 27, 2025, at CONS DSU on the theme "Technology-Integrated Nursing Education: Bridging the Gap". The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Pushpa, Dean, School of Health Sciences, who highlighted the importance of digital transformation in nursing education. Renowned guest speakers included Dr. S. Valliammal, Mr. Tamilpulavendran V (NIMHANS), Ms. Anu Grover (SGT University), and Dr. Judie Arulappan (Sultan Qaboos University).
Sessions focused on simulation-based learning, AI and virtual platforms, and tech-enhanced assessments. The FDP aimed to strengthen digital teaching skills and foster innovation among nursing faculty.
Leprosy Awareness Program
College of Nursing Sciences, under the Department of Community Health Nursing, Dayananda Sagar University, in collaboration with 8th Semester B.Sc. Nursing students, conducted a Leprosy Awareness Program on 30 January 2026 at the Primary Health Centre, Doddamaralavadi.
The initiative aimed to empower the community through knowledge and contribute toward the national goal of a Leprosy-Free India. The program highlighted the importance of early detection and timely medical care. Community members were encouraged to seek treatment without fear or hesitation. Centred on the theme “Leprosy is curable, but the real challenge is stigma,” the session focused on dispelling myths and misconceptions. Emphasis was laid on treatment adherence and completion to prevent complications. The program promoted dignity, inclusion, and compassionate care for affected individuals. It reinforced the role of awareness in eliminating both disease and discrimination.
Career Enhancement Program for 8th Semester Nursing Students
The program focused on employability skills and career preparation. The session was conducted by Mr. Narendra Pendekanti, Sr. Manager – Training & Placements, covering career strategies, CV preparation, and emerging nursing opportunities.
Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign
The campaign focused on educating school students about the harmful effects of tobacco through interactive sessions. Students were encouraged to say NO to tobacco and adopt healthy lifestyle practices. The program emphasized preventive health, personal responsibility, and community well-being, contributing toward building a tobacco-free generation.
FDP on Technology-Integrated Nursing Education: Bridging the Gap
The FDP commenced on June 23, 2025, with an interactive introduction and ice-breaking session led by Dr. S. Valliammal, focusing on the relevance of keywords in teaching. She also discussed the evolving trends in nursing education and helped participants identify digital tools specific to their specialities.
On Day 2, Dr. Valliammal guided participants through simulation-based learning and virtual labs, followed by the development of department-wise scenarios, fostering hands-on learning.
Day 3 featured Mr. Thamizhpulavendran V, who introduced the application of AI and VR in education and explained e-learning platforms and LMS. A group discussion followed, enabling participants to reflect on their institutional challenges and digital gaps.
Dr. Judie Arulappan led Day 4, focusing on assessment and evaluation in digital classrooms and how technology can help bridge theory-practice gaps. She also engaged participants in discussions on current tech tools used in assessment.
The final day featured Dr. Anu Grover, who spoke about quality assurance and accreditation in tech-based nursing education and the vital role of faculty as digital change agents. The programme concluded with a post-test, feedback collection, and a valedictory session.
Annual Day-2024
The College of Nursing Sciences at Dayananda Sagar University celebrated its Annual Day with great enthusiasm on July 13, 2024. The event began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by distinguished guests. Dr. Sanjay M. Peerapur, Principal of KLES Institute of Nursing Sciences, Hubli, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of holistic education and motivating students to pursue their dreams with dedication and hard work. Dr. Santham Sweet Rose, Principal of the College of Nursing Sciences, presented the Annual Report, while Dr. Pushpa Sarkar, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, addressed the gathering and congratulated all the prize winners. The award ceremony was one of the event’s highlights, honoring students for their achievements in academics, sports, and cultural activities. The day also featured vibrant performances by the students, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Career Counseling Workshop
The College of Nursing Sciences in association with Medivaah group organized “Workshop on Career Counseling” for B.Sc. Nursing IV year & M.Sc. Nursing II year students on 25.07.23 at F Block Auditorium, CDSIMER at 10 am. The Medivaah group volunteers helped the students to make individual resume and also helped with profile creating activities on Medivaah and uploading introductory videos on the app.
Community Outreach
Awareness Programme on Disaster Preparedness
The College of Nursing Science, Dayananda Sagar University, organized two impactful events under the National Service Scheme. On 20/11/2024, a Disaster Preparedness Mock Drill was conducted by the Karnataka Government Disaster Task Force, inaugurated by Dr. Pushpa Sarkar, Dean, SHS, DSU. SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) officers Mr. Hanumanth, DFO and Mr. Sunil, trainer provided comprehensive theoretical and practical training on handling natural and man-made disasters. On 27/11/2024, as a part of Mock Drill special emphasis was made on Fire Safety by Mr. Manjunath and his team from Kanakapura Fire Station. Live demonstrations of fire extinguishers and hosepipes enhanced the participation of 450 students from Nursing, Pharmacy, and Physiotherapy programs.
Workshop on Emergency Nursing and Life Support
The College of Nursing Sciences, DSU in association with JeevaRaksha- RGUHS organized Workshop on Emergency Nursing and Life Support for B.Sc. Nursing final year students and faculty from 18/07/2023 to 20/07/23 for 3 days at Seminar Hall, KS layout campus, Dayananda Sagar University. The participants were given scenarios to practice on trauma management and communication skills by using ISBAR, CUS, SPIKES techniques. Practical Examinations was conducted on Air way management & Cardiac emergencies for all the participants.
International Conference
"International Conference on "Advancing Research Methodologies: Innovations, Challenges, and Future Directions"
The College of Nursing Sciences, DSU, organized an International Conference on "Advancing Research Methodologies: Innovations, Challenges, and Future Directions" over two days, 26th and 27th July 2024. Shri. Galiswamy Sir, Secretary of the Mahatma Gandhi Vidyapeet Trust, was the Guest of Honor for the conference, which was presided over by Dr. Pushpa Sarkar, Dean of SHS. The Karnataka State Nursing Council awarded 8 credit points for the conference, and Mrs. Nicola Sharon Ambrose, Principal of Manjushree College of Nursing, was appointed as an observer by the KSNC. Awards were given for the best papers and posters, and the conference saw around 810 participants from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal, marking it as a grand success.
"International Nurses Day Celebration-2024"
The College of Nursing Sciences, DSU celebrated International Nurses Day on 21st May 2024 at F-Block auditorium from 10.00 am onwards. Program started with the competitions for all the students Dance (Solo and Group), Just A Minute, Dumb Charades. Prof. Nicola Sharon Ambrose, Dean, Manjushree Institutions, Bangalore was the Chief Guest for the event. She addressed insisting the importance of having passion towards Nursing profession and following the footpaths of the eminent nursing leaders. Dr. Pushpa Sarkar, Dean, SHS, DSU wished the very best for the students and Dr. D. Santham Sweet Rose, Principal encouraged the student nurses to have more compassionate care.
