Associate Professor
Dr. Amritha Abdul Salam is an academician and researcher specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Medical Image Processing, Data Science and Generative AI. She is currently serving as an Associate Professor in Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) at the School of Engineering, Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru, India. Before joining Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), she worked as a Senior Researcher – Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning at Litmus7, Trivandrum, India, where she conducted advanced research in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and organizational intelligence systems. Her work focused on developing enterprise-grade AI products integrating LLMs, Natural Language Processing (NLP), graph learning frameworks, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems. Prior to that, she served as a Senior Data Scientist at Ospyn Technologies, Trivandrum, India, where she designed and deployed scalable machine learning solutions for document intelligence, automated data extraction, anonymization systems, and explainable AI-enabled business intelligence platforms. Dr. Amritha completed her Ph.D. in Medical Image Processing using Artificial Intelligence from the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India in the year 2023. Her doctoral thesis focused on developing deep learning and graph-based computational frameworks for automated retinal disease diagnosis. During her doctoral tenure, she served as a Senior Research Scholar and Graduate Teaching Assistant, contributing to postgraduate courses in Medical Imaging and Informatics, Medical Physics and Medical Science & Technology. She earned her Master of Technology in Biomedical Engineering from Manipal University, India in the year 2016, where her thesis investigated event-related potentials and sustained attention mechanisms in EEG signal processing in collaboration with the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), DRDO, Delhi. She completed her Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Kerala, India in the year 2013. With nearly a decade of combined academic, research, and industry experience, Dr. Amritha has developed expertise in Computer Vision, Biomedical Signal Processing, Graph Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Generative AI, and Large Language Models. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal and conference publications in reputed international venues, including works on graph neural networks for diabetic retinopathy grading and retinal disease diagnosis published in Springer journals, as well as conference contributions presented at IEEE TENCON and other international forums. Her research interests encompass Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Medical Image Analysis, Digital Fundus Image Processing, Graph Learning, Generative AI, Large Language Models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation Systems, Biomedical Signal Processing, and Explainable Artificial Intelligence.
