Dayananda Sagar University (DSU) invites applications for admission to its Ph.D. program (Full-Time) under AI Factory Research Centre. The University has a strong pool of qualified faculty members who guide research scholars toward their doctoral degrees.
Eligibility Criteria
- For all research programmes, candidates must have studied their previous degree programmes (4-year UG and PG) in the regular, full-time mode.
- Master's degree with 55% marks or equivalent grade from any recognized university.
- A relaxation of 5% is applicable for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently abled candidates.

Section 1: Research Methodology
Research Fundamentals
Meaning, objectives and characteristics of research, types of research, research process, problem statement, literature survey, importance, sources, identifying gap areas and development of working hypothesis.
Hypothesis & Analysis
Variables, development of working hypothesis, deriving objectives of research, sampling, material and methods, data analysis, results and discussion.
Research Design
Basic principles, features of good design, methods, developing a research plan, determining experimental and sample designs, summary, conclusions, abstracts, keywords, references and citation styles.
Report & Article Writing
Structure and components, types of reports, technical reports and thesis, significance, preparation, layout, structure and language of typical reports, presentation and effective communication.
Research Proposal Fundamentals
Grant proposal, proposal parts, research ethics, relationships in research groups, hazards to good scientific practice, scientific misconduct, intellectual property rights, patents, copyrights and trademarks.
Section 2: Generative AI & LLM
Core ML & AI
ML basics (supervised/unsupervised, bias–variance, regularisation), neural networks and backpropagation, transformers and attention, tokenisation, embeddings, decoding, pre-training, fine-tuning, PEFT/LoRA, RLHF, prompting and RAG, GANs, VAEs, diffusion and multimodal models.
Data
Collection, curation, licensing, cleaning, deduplication, preprocessing, feature engineering, dimensionality reduction, splits, leakage, imbalance, augmentation, synthetic data and dataset bias.
Experimentation
Experimental design, baselines, ablations, statistics and significance testing, precision/recall/F1, ROC-AUC, perplexity, BLEU/ROUGE, human and LLM-as-judge, benchmarks, hyperparameter tuning, cross-validation, error analysis and A/B testing.
Software & Systems
Python, NumPy, pandas, PyTorch, autograd, training loops, Hugging Face / NeMo tooling, CUDA, GPU memory, mixed precision, distributed training, parallelism, quantisation, KV cache, serving, latency vs throughput, APIs, containers, version control and MLOps.
Trustworthy AI
Bias and fairness, hallucination detection and grounding, explainability, model cards, privacy, PII, memorisation, security, prompt injection, jailbreaks, poisoning, guardrails, alignment, red teaming, governance and regulation.
Selection Process
- Selection is based on performance in the Entrance Test and Interview conducted by an expert panel.
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks are required to qualify.
- Relaxation of marks from 50% to 45% is applicable for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/ Differently abled candidates.
Final Selection
The final selection is based on the rank list prepared from the combined performance in both the Entrance Test and Interview.
Program Duration
- Candidates with PG qualification: Minimum 3 years (Full-Time), including coursework.
- Maximum program duration: 6 years.
- Stipend will be offered only for 3 years.
