Dr. Ipsita Som
Assistant Professor
Dr. Ipsita Som earned doctorate degree in Chemistry from the National Institute of Technology Durgapur, West Bengal in the year of 2024. During her PhD tenure she worked in synthesis of mesoporous transition metal and metal oxide based nanoparticles for remediation of organic pollutants via adsorption, photocatalytic degradation and reductive degradation. Additionally she developed a copper halide based heterojunction nanomaterials which can exhibit dual behaviour of remediation of organic dye molecules and sensing of phenol by electrochemical approach. She has published total 11 research papers in reputed international journals. She did M.Tech. in Corrosion Science & Technology from National Institute of Technology Durgapur in 2017 and an M.Sc. in Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry from Vidyasagar University, West Bengal in the year of 2014. She has worked as a Project Assistant at TCG Life Sciences, Kolkata, West Bengal from 2017-2018. After PhD she worked as an institute Postdoctoral Fellow at Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad. In this time, she worked in development of biopolymeric-nanocomposite hydrogel for oral drug delivery application. Afterwards she worked at Amity University Bengaluru as an Assistant Professor in the department of Chemistry from Sep 2025 to July 2026. She is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru, where she teaches Basic Chemistry and integrated chemistry and biochemistry practicals. and laboratory planning, assessment, and academic activities. Alongside research, Dr. Som has experience mentoring and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students. During her PhD, postdoctoral research, and teaching career, she has assisted students in undergraduate and postgraduate chemistry laboratory courses and has provided academic mentoring, guidance on laboratory work and assessments, and support for student learning and research activities.
Her research contributes to the development of functional nanomaterials and polymeric materials for addressing environmental and biomedical challenges. Her work on nanomaterial-based water treatment focuses on the removal and degradation of pollutants from contaminated water, with potential relevance to sustainable water remediation and environmental protection. Her research on biopolymeric hydrogels explores material-based approaches for controlled drug delivery, contributing to the development of functional biomaterials for biomedical applications. Overall, her work integrates materials chemistry, environmental sustainability, and biomedical applications through the synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation of advanced materials.
