Dr. Santhosh N Hegde

Assistant Professor

Dr. Santhosh N. Hegde is a bioinformatician and researcher with a background in bioinformatics, genomics, and computational biology. He holds a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics from JSS University and a Ph.D. in Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics from the university of Transdisciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU), Bengaluru. His doctoral research focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of gall development in medicinally important plants using integrated multi-omics approach. He has previously worked as a Post-Doctoral Scientist and Assistant Professor at TDU, Bengaluru.

His research experience spans genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics, microbiome analysis, and multi-omics data integration. He has worked with large scale biological datasets to understand molecular pathways to identify biologically important molecules, and explore relationships across different layers of biological information. He is also interested in using AI and machine learning to bring together diverse biological data and extract meaningful insights. Dr. Hegde worked on several interdisciplinary projects combining food-omics, plant genomics, and medicinal plant research. His work included the analysis of de novo genome sequencing and other omics datasets from medicinally important plants such as Pistacia integerrima, Tinospora cordifolia, and Saraca asoca.

His current research interests are in computational biology and bioinformatics, particularly RNA editing and the use of computational methods to address biological questions. He is interested in understanding how changes at the RNA level influence biological processes and in developing computational strategies to study such molecular events. His research is driven by a simple goal: to use computational thinking and biological data to better understand complex biological problems and develop practical solutions.

• M. Sc in Bioinformatics from JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru
