Assistant Professor

Dr Syed Meheboob Elahi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, School of Engineering, Dayananda Sagar University. He completed his B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry from the University of Burdwan in 2006 and M.Sc. in Inorganic Chemistry from Visva-Bharati University in 2008. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Hyderabad in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. M. V. Rajasekharan, where his research focused on the synthesis, properties, and structural analysis of heterometallic coordination clusters and networks.

He qualified for the GATE in 2008 (All India Rank 543) and the CSIR-NET with a Junior Research Fellowship in 2009. He also secured first rank in the PhD entrance examination at the University of Hyderabad and received the CAS Fellowship. Following his doctoral studies, he carried out postdoctoral research at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (2016–2017), followed by Nanjing University, China, and IISER Bhopal (2020), working extensively on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), phosphonate-based frameworks, crystalline porous materials, proton-conducting materials, and crystal engineering. He subsequently served as an Ad-Hoc Faculty Member at SVNIT Surat (2020–2022) and as a Temporary Faculty Member at IIEST Shibpur (2023–2025).

Dr Elahi has published numerous research articles in reputed international journals, including Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Chemistry – A European Journal, Inorganic Chemistry, Dalton Transactions, CrystEngComm, and Journal of Materials Chemistry A. His research has been recognised with the DST-SERB National Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Best Poster Award at the 15th Conference on Solid State Chemistry and Inorganic Synthesis (China, 2018), and the IUPAC Poster Prize at the 7th Asian Conference on Coordination Chemistry (Malaysia, 2019). He has actively participated in several national and international conferences through oral and poster presentations and has co-organised scientific events in India. His research interests include coordination chemistry, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), crystalline porous materials, proton-conducting materials, crystal engineering, gas sorption, solid-state chemistry, and functional inorganic materials.
