Assessment and Grading of Student Work

Assessment Scheme

Each course will be assessed for 100% weight, out of which 60% weight is for Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and 40% weight is for Semester End Examination (SEE).

Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) – 60 Marks

Assessment Component Maximum Marks Remarks
Mid Semester Examination (MSE) 40 One written examination conducted during the semester. Marks are reduced to 30 for CIA computation.
Purpose: Knowledge, understanding, analysis, problem solving.
Continuous Assessment Tools (CATs) 30 Faculty shall conduct multiple assessments using suitable Continuous Assessment Tools.
Total Raw Marks 70
CIA Marks Awarded 60 MSE (40 reduced to 30) + CATs (30) = 60 Marks

The dates for conducting MSE and CATs will be announced in the academic calendar.

Semester End Examination (SEE) – 40 Marks

The Semester End Examination will be conducted for 80 marks for a duration of 2½ hours and marks awarded will be scaled down to 40% weight.

Overall Assessment Scheme

The overall assessment scheme combines Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and Semester End Examination (SEE) to provide a comprehensive evaluation of student learning. The CIA carries a 60-mark weightage, comprising the Mid Semester Examination (MSE) and Continuous Assessment Tools (CATs), while the SEE carries a 40-mark weightage. The raw marks are proportionately converted to the prescribed weightage, resulting in a total assessment of 100 marks.

Component Raw Marks Weightage
Mid Semester Examination (MSE) 40 30
Continuous Assessment Tools (CATs) 30 30
Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) 70 60
Semester End Examination (SEE) 80 40
