DSU SCMS Sustainbility COPE
Vision: SHAPING RESPONSIBLE BUSINESSES OF TOMORROW
Under the direction of This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., the sustainability COPE is set up and dedicated to create knowledge through its research and industry engagement activities to help spread best practices amongst companies.
As a research centre, Sustainability COPE aims to be a catalyst for sustainable business practices, and would work towards increasing awareness in young managers in enabling sustainability in organizational lives as well as managerial decision-making.
This would be achieved through interdisciplinary research and education, and by producing work that are relevant to the industries as well as academia, by working and collaborating across industries and across academic disciplines. We aim to create business leaders that enable sustainable business practices.
Objectives
- Build in-house expertise on Sustainability through research, knowledge sharing and fieldwork (ESD)
- Build strong partnerships networks with NGOs and industry players in the areas of sustainability practices and ESG reporting
- Integrate sustainability within the courses and specializations being offered within SCMS
- To be a recognized skill centre in the sustainability domain in India
Relevance to Industry & Academia
Sustainability topics in education enables people of all ages with knowledge, skills, values and ability to tackle issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, overuse of resources, and inequality that impacts the well-being of people and planet (UNESCO.org)
Education for sustainable development is an integral element of SDG target 4.7. It is a holistic approach to education that empowers learners of all ages with the knowledge, skills, values and agency to make informed decisions and act responsibly to protect the environment, promote just and equal economic development and societies.Education for sustainable development (ESD) advocates for learning that is:
- Cognitive: How we think and understand information
- Socio-economic: Building social skills, empathy and emotional intelligence
- Behavioral: Encouraging positive actions and behaviours

Students activities
Students in different batches are getting exposed to structured learning of sustainability, environmental and social challenges that they can contribute to and get first hand understanding of aligning with SDGs.
They also learn about these issues through mid-term assignments and group activities that they have been carrying out by visiting firms and companies in different domains and how these enterprises are contributing to the sustainability uptake of their businesses.
